About
About Anchored in Faith
After working within the field of domestic abuse, I noticed there was a pattern. Woman would go through services, find themselves in situations that were safer, but still find themselves living on eggshells, still jumping, still not able to completely sleep at night, still unsure of how to live in this new season of safety that felt unfamiliar, and honestly unsafe still, despite being told otherwise. How can something that is safe be more frightening, I hear you say....?
Well, after being made redundant I went on my own little journey. I started a Life Coaching Course and started to learn more about trauma, the body and the nervous system. From this learning I started to learn how powerful breathing was, how our body holds memories and learnt someone can feel unsafe whilst being safe. From this Anchored in Faith was born. I decided to take all of my knowledge from working with survivors and all the things I was now learning and create something that opened the doors into bringing two worlds together, domestic abuse and the nervous system.
So this work isn't about replacing other services or resources, but rather it has been created to compliment it, to bring the missing pieces, that I feel are missing, into the recovery, so that women can truly live thriving lives, in this new season, and really feel safe, not just physically, but inside their bodies too.
The name reflects a journey many will recognise, being anchored to things that once kept us safe and afloat, but later stopped us from moving forward. The safety net we once created to keep us safe, is actually now the thing that is working against us, not for us. For example. It could be that you once needed to be small and quiet, to stay safe, you learnt this skill as it helped you survive, but now life is safer, it is different, you can speak up and take up space again. However, this feels frightening and unsafe, so we have a choice, we can stay as we are or we can grow, release old anchors and anchor ourselves to new truths and learn the new strength we have inside.
This space and my work is something I am so passionate and excited about, it is something I believe in deeply and I am excited to share it.
Faith does not always have to mean something spiritual either, it can also mean the faith you have within you, learning to trust in yourself again, knowing you have everything you need inside, learning it was always there and I will help you see it and find it again.
About Me
Hi, I'm Laura,
I am a qualified Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA), who previously worked as a Senior Practitioner for a Domestic Abuse Charity. I have worked within the field of Domestic Abuse for nearly 10years.
I have experience of supporting young people, men and woman who survived domestic abuse at all levels, but mostly at high risk, MARAC level.
I have worked both inside refuges and also in the community offering support one to one and also through group settings where I delivered Pattern Changing, as a trained facilitator of Pattern Changing. I also hold a Leadership and Management qualification with the ILM and am a JNC Qualified Youth Worker with Honours.
I've worked alongside;
- Woman navigating coercive control
- Stalking
- Honour based violence and forced marriage
- Sexual, financial, physical, and emotional abuse
My work is grounding and deeply respectful of lived experiences. I don't believe in quick fixes. I believe in steady, compassionate rebuilding, one step at a time.
I am not a therapist or psychologist. I bring years of experience as an IDVA and currently am training as a life coach, as I believe it is important to keep growing. I am here to walk alongside you with understanding, honesty and care, as you find steadier ground again.
